James S. Kresge
James is a one-stop shop for strategic legal advice. He serves as a fractional general counsel for small to mid-market companies. His first goal is to understand his clients’ competitive advantages, so he can help grow and protect what they have built. As a Marine Judge Advocate, a law clerk to an Ohio Supreme Court Justice, a civil litigator, and a Global Executive MBA, James leverages his unique blend of education and experience to solve a wide range of business and corporate legal issues.
James’ business law practice focuses on real estate law, contract law, business formation, mergers, and acquisitions with a special interest in helping first time entrepreneurs and closely held family companies protect what they have created. His litigation practice focuses on insurance coverage, appeals, and other complex litigation.
Before entering private practice, James clerked three years for Justice Sharon L. Kennedy of the Supreme Court of Ohio. While at the court, James gained experience in almost every area of state law.
Prior to working at the Supreme Court of Ohio, James served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps as a prosecutor in Okinawa, Japan and Parris Island, South Carolina where he litigated over a dozen felony level contested jury trials. While on active duty, he was also appointed as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division. Currently, James is a Major in the United States Marine Corps Reserves serving as a Judge Advocate supporting Headquarters Marine Corps at the Pentagon.
James and his wife Lauren are the proud parents of two children and reside in Genoa Township, Ohio. They are passionate about their extended families, their church, fitness, learning new things, and when they get the chance, traveling the world.
